The management of the Phoenix Inn has changed hands or at least those running it. The car park is getting a worse for wear and tear. Some deep potholes are appearing so watch out for these.
The pub is getting smokier and the staff more critical of our only mainly drinking soft drinks. Not sure why on the latter, as I thought soft drinks had a huge mark up.
All this combined; I am considering moving the 2nd Weds meet to another pub. Leaving the last Thurs meet at the Phoenix of course.
What would be the views of those of you who are on BC and regulars to the meets?

Why not.
I too think that the car park has degenerated badly over the last year or so and is becoming less suitable for cars like Sevens. Maybe they should be encouraging the local Landrover club to have meetings there.

Steve,
Always nice to have some variation and if you're going to stick with The Phoenix on one of the meets then another location would be good for the 2nd Wed meet.
We're considering having a change from time to time at the Thames Valley meet. Similar to yourselves, we have talked about sticking with The Swan for our monthly meet, then having a more informal meet somewhere else in the interim.
Perhaps we could have a joint meet somewhere between your area and ours where we all meet up |

Having finally got round to cleaning the New Years Day car park crud off my car yesterday (Naughty! Naughty! Smacked wrist.) I have to agree. As for the soft drinks question: I could understand if the management complained we didn't spend enough full stop (to justify our use of the "facilities"), but on the other hand we are additional customers for a quiet pub on a quiet day. Complaining because we don't buy "the right sort of drinks" seems peculiarly British.
Always assuming it's not moved too far away of course

I think that The Phoenix should realise how lucky they are to have 10-20 people descend on their pub regularly and buy drinks (soft drinks do have a vast mark up - most just arrive as a gel that they mix with water!!!). I'm shocked that they should think otherwise . If that's the way they think then stuff them! I'd be happy for us to give our business to another pub.
I agree with the car park issue, though for the Wed and Thurs meetings 90% of us fit in the concreted area at the front, so I don't see that as an issue.

Haven't attended a meeting for ages (guilty as charged your honour) but ....
The Shoulder of Mutton in Hazeley is a good pub and I think may already host the MG club (or did in the past). Food is excellent.
It's also not too far from current location ?
Only a suggestion ....... |

I second the Shoulder of Mutton on its comedy location just South of Hazely Knob and Hazely Bottom.

Steve, I agree. The food has also gone downhill rapidly (especially the Christmas meal).
What about a roving venue where we choose different locations each month and have a great blat getting there ?
I'm sure that everyone would come up with suggestions. There is a great pub in Windlesham with a large car park (Half Moon I think) The Stag and Hounds at Binfield, The Bell in Waltham St Lawrence and another on the outskirts of Maidenhead...( I'm not really an alcoholic ! )
As long as we schedule the suggested venues in advance and we tune into Blatchat we should be able to get everyone there.
(This would however make "Will Fly" Roy of the Rovers !)

I reckon my local pub (The New Inn, Stratfield Saye) might be suitable. It has a fair sized smooth tarmac car park, and is just a few yards from the Hants/Berks border, so very suitable for us location wise.
So far as I know the landlord is pretty cool about cars and bikes (I've seen a few track days advertised in his pub), and would probably welcome us.
If that interests you Steve I could speak to him?

Steve et al,
As I wrote in my previous post, perhaps Thames Valley area could meet you halfway (or thereabouts) if you fancied a joint meeting on one of your monthly meets
Any thoughts |

If we find a pub we like (and they like us) we could think about a complete change.

Looks like a good excuse for a number of blats to local pubs BLOODY FANTASTIC!!!!
I like Ray's idea of a roving meet, maybe we could do this for a couple of months and then vote on the findings? Keeping the Phoenix as the Thursday meet for the time being would also be a good move, people from other meets know where it is and often pop along, they wouldn't necessarily check on blatchat first.
You laugh at me because I'm different, I laugh at you because you're all the same.
