This was shown last night on BBC4. I'm not sure if it will be repeated.
The Pedants' Revolt Journalist and broadcaster Victoria Coren investigates the state of the English language, which many claim is in crisis due to an onslaught of split infinitives and misplaced apostrophes. She meets up with representatives of the Queen's English society and interviews John Humphrys to discover how the champions of good grammar are attempting to fight back.
Amusingly is you type The Pedants' Revolt into the BBC4 search page it comes up with - Were you looking for "The Peasants' Revolt? Dooh! Is John H spelling his name right? I bet a spell checker changes it to Humphreys
Eric M, did you see it?, How about an area meeting crash course in the use of English? That way us poor 60's and 70's children might keep up with our increasingly pedantry kids. We could follow that with a course from a teenager on how to use mobile phone text abbreviations effectively. Thus balancing things up

Q: Who led the Pedants' Revolt? A: Which Tyler.
I saw the program the first time round, I liked the guy who went around with a paintbrush, adding missing apostrophe's sic. Eric and I were taught in the Dark Ages when spelling and grammar mattered. I escaped lightly as I've always had a built-in spell-checker but I think Eric was beaten up by the "Sisters of Mercy" if he got anything wrong

Ireland was "behind" the times when it came to education - so the "revolution" in teaching which destroyed English teaching in England in the 1960s only hit Ireland in the mid 1970s. I was out of school by then.
As for the nuns, I had escaped their clutches by the time I was 8. In my home town, they only taught boys up to that age. After that age you were transferred into the tender clutches of the "school masters" of the Irish National School system.
And no, I didn't see the programme as I do not receive "Freeview" in my area and I'm damned if I'll pay NTL for a channel that I am already paying for through my TV licence.

Eric You should be on Grumpy old men. Freeview is good IMO. If it's on again, I'll video it for you.
The nuns would have fixed you by the age of eight for sure
How about some pedantry classes then?

I think Freeview is very good, particularly BBC 4. That's why I'm so annoyed about not being able to see it.

It was a repeat of a BBC 1 or 2 programme from a week or so ago.
By the way, the Pedants' Revolt was led by Whom Tyler of course. |

Getting Freeview meant I could see Channel 5 and fifth gear even with my old aerial. Oh and BBC 3 and 4 and ITV 2 and 3. Sorry Eric, rubbing it in now, aren't I. I actually bought the Freeview decoder to watch the Olympic sailing that was screened on the extra channels. The entire races were shown.
Back to pedantry. I liked the bit about nude readers & wives the most . Tipex and President's next. Getting a reasonably attractive girl to present it was a good idea . She could teach me to watch my P's and Q's. As Billy Connerly said, "I like getting old, everyone younger than me looks great".
