I am getting a little bored going to the same venue for both monthly meetings!

I was at the Crown and Cushion yesterday (after sailing on Hawley Lake), we had stopped off for a pub afternoon meal.

I've been a few times before but this time I asked about their interest to host us on the last Thursday meeting. The dept manager had seen us up at the shoulder a few weeks back.

Another reason for me to want to move is the Shoulder of mutton's car park. Difficult to get the summer evenings 30-35 cars in that carpark.

Pro's
-The Crown and Cushion has a masssive car park 60 marked spaces for normal sized cars. Goodness knows how many (regular sizedtoothy smiley) 7's we could get in there.
-We can use the 15th centruy great hall (all oak beams and full of character). It has sofa area by the fire for winters evenings and is both smoking / non smoking (well segregated) with lots of extraction. It is also available FOC for functions we might hold.
-It's not too far from where we usually meet.
-Plenty of benches both front and rear (sit and admire your car or watch a bit of cricket at the back (if they play on Thursdays as it overlooks the pitch).
-Food that I have eaten there is good. Staff are attentive. I spoke to the Dept. Manager, the chef, and other waitresses.
-An alt to the Shoulder and better equipped than the Phoenix.

Con's
-Forgot to ask about the free chips and snorkers (can do this in the bargaining round...)
-Are there any others.

They don't seem to have a website
but some info is here

Address is : Minley Rd, Blackwater, Camberley, GU17 9UA

What do the H(n)&B members say?

First thoughts:-

1) Nice pub
2) Do you mean the 15th century hall that was actually built about 25 or so years agoquestion marktoothy smiley
3) There have been quite a few instances of vandalism to cars parked at the Crown & Cushion while the owners were inside the pub although if it were just Summer and we were out there, it shouldn't be a problem.
4) It's too nearexclamation!!

As it is mainly summertime that the car park size at the SOM becomes a problem, why not winter there and summer at the Crown & Cushionquestion mark Provided they give free chips & Sossys of course.toothy smiley

It is a nice venue and I have spent one or two happy warm summer Sunday afternoons there watching cricket on the adjoining pitch.

My only real concern is the vandalism problem, not sure if that has been addressed or if it was just a blip that hasn't happened again. Either way I would only be happy to leave the 7's outside if some of us were keeping watch.

Chips & sossies a must IMO.toothy smiley

I will ask about the vandalism issue. I guess it was a one off, or a group causing trouble.
These things can happen anywhere.
A car parked around the back at night could be risk but that's the same as the Phoenix really isn't.

You could get Mr Webber to car sit. Take the odd pint out for him and a small portion of chips - he'd be happy.toothy smiley

At least at the Phoenix, most/all 7's are parked out the front and can be seen from the pub but hopefully the landlord can assure you the problem has gone away now.thumbs up

It does look a nice pub big grin smiley

Strange about the vandalism issue as it seems pretty remote (apart from the military barracks and lake).

I like the idea of Summer at the C&C and Winter at the S of M...also, we didn't get chips and bangers last Wednesday sad smiley

Me smiley

The Crown and Cushion is OK by me (if a bit too close - as in Brent's case). I've taken my Seven there on quite a few occasions and haven't had any problems.

They also have lots of picnic tables outside and those outdoor gas heaters to keep you warm if it gets a bit nippy.

Sounds fine by me too, are you suggesting just the Thursday meet moves or moving both to the 'summer' location?

Only the Thursday meeting.

How about
- 2nd Weds meet at The Shoulder of Mutton
- Last Thurs meet, Summer half year (May to Sept) at The Crown and Cushion, winter half year, at The Shoulder of Mutton (Oct – April).

I haven't been to the crown and cushion in years

I seem to remember it being a nice enough place.

2 questions:

What are the waitresses like?
Does this mean I have to start coming to the Last Thursday meets as well?
