Just back from a thousand mile blat that took in Dorset, Wiltshire, Devon and Cornwall. Had a great time with my 13 year old son catching up on old aquaintances that seem to have dispersed over the years. Sponsors, race engineers and speed freaks mainly.

Sent some time with the Crescent Suzuki guys and got invited to trackday at Silverstone soon. They are putting up Neil McKenzie and John Reynolds on bikes against cars. Done to death in the past, I know, but should be interesting. Apparently Jay Kay will be there with a Ferrari Enzo. I'm going to try a blag a ride. As my sons are guitarists I'll try and ask JK how to make money by making the same record over and over again :-) Probably a trick he learned from Phil Collins.

I visited some nutty people in Poole who are making V8 2 litre engines from Yamaha 1000 cc barrels and heads. 320 bhp in a 73 kilo package. Very clever design. 14 K + VAT. www.cyclonepowerltd.co.uk I want one!

Caught up with Brian Capper in Plymouth. He used to build all the Endurace race engines for team MCN weh I spannered for them. The last time I saw him was on the Isle of Man when my sixteen year old son was 9 months old. He now prepares (amongst other things) a Turbo Hyabusa for the boss of GT motorcycles. 220 mph! The fairing was a bit damaged where a gust of wind put him into the timing lights! He didn't fall off! Funnily enough the speed runs were done at Woodbridge where I live but Brian had no idea where I ended up. Next time he will come and visit.

Stopped over at the V-Twin motorcycle rally in Shaftesbury which I used to attend in the early eighties. There was a stand there that had all sorts of things that may be of interest to Caterham owners. Clothing, sleeping bags, waterproof maps. I bought a waterproof bag made by a German company called Ortlieb. See www.traveldri-plus.co.uk for all the products available.

Went up Zig Zag hill giving people rides in the Caterham. Took a mate's girlfriend out. During the ride all she could say was "Bloody Hell!". She had a stupid grin on her face for ages afterwards. She now wants a Caterham. Her boyfriend is a good mate of mine who is a race engineer who used to build Caterhams to export to Japan. He now works for a company that retores Jaguar D types and Ferrari 250's. Coming to think about it I seem to have given rides mainly to attractive women. I do love helping them strap into my car :-) When motorcyclists are impressed by a car you knoew it is something special. Everybody commented on the acceleration and grip.

I finally fitted fuel injection to my car. Finished it on the Friday morning. MOT Friday afternoon. Off on Saturday. Didn't miss a beat. Fuel consumption vastly improved. Feels a lot faster in acceleration. Sounds noisier! Must make an airbox. Needs a few minor tweaks to get rid of the popping and banging on the overrun (which half emptied my silencer of packing, managed to get some packing from a motorcycle shop. I tried loft insulation as a stop gap and it lasted all of five minutes). Lambda under load was acceptable but slightly rich. Cruise was slightly lean but water temp was a rock solid 85 C. so I decided to go anyway. Before on carbs 20-22 mpg. Now 27-33 mpg!

I'm happy! Just want to do it all agian soon.toothy smiley

We did have a really good time along some incredible roads. Tom didn't get bored for one second even though he had to listen to his old man and his mate's war stories in the evenings. Only problem is I now don't feel like doing any work now. I want to go out and play again. Might have to find an excuse. Maybe I need to go on a "business trip" soon.toothy smiley

I just knew that would trigger some sort of response from you Marc toothy smiley

Don't worry I'm going over to the workshop this afternoon to do some work on your engine. I'm going to try to get your Zetec finished within the next week. Then I can finally get stuck in to the Duratec. Won't be able to deliver to the club on Monday if it's finished as I'm going in my Seven. Nifty is convinced I don't really have a Seven at all it's been off the road so long. Just want to reassure him.toothy smiley

Nifty still won't be convinced since you've cleverly decided to "turn up in the 7" to a meeting that you know he won't be present at, due to touring commitments north of the borderexclamation!!
